2024 SSP Copyright Workshop

Introduction to Copyright

Join SSP for a virtual training session on all the ins and outs of copyright. Rick Anderson, University Librarian at Brigham Young University’s Harold B. Lee Library, will provide an overview of the topic, starting with the purpose of copyright and then moving on to how it works. Along the way, he’ll cover some of the most pressing issues and questions around copyright:
fair use
licensing rights
open access vs public access
myths about authorship and copyright
helping others understand copyright basics

This interactive session will be of interest to anyone working in scholarly communications whose work touches on copyright.

Instructor: 

Rick Anderson, Brigham Young University 

Rick Anderson is University Librarian of Brigham Young University. He has worked previously as a bibliographer for YBP, Inc., as Head Acquisitions Librarian for the University of North Carolina, Greensboro, as Director of Resource Acquisition at the University of Nevada, Reno, and as Associate Dean for Collections & Scholarly Communication at the University of Utah. He serves on numerous editorial and advisory boards and is a regular contributor to the Scholarly Kitchen blog. He has served as president of NASIG and of the Society for Scholarly Publishing and is a recipient of the HARRASSOWITZ Leadership in Library Acquisitions Award. Rick is the author of three books, including Scholarly Communication: What Everyone Needs to Know (Oxford University Press, 2018).

Residents of countries classified as low, lower middle, or upper middle on the World Bank List of Economies quality for a discounted registration rate. Refund/Cancellation Policy

No refunds will be processed for webinars. SSP encourages you to send a substitute in your place if you cannot attend and the webinar is recorded and available to registered attendees for 60 days after the broadcast. SSP reserves the right to cancel any program. In the unlikely event of cancellations, we will refund your registration fee, however, SSP is not responsible for any costs, damages, or other expenses of any kind incurred by registrant.
